Best Common Core Curriculum Reading | Math

What is the Best Common Core Reading and Math Curriculum?

My Top Pick for CCSS Elementary Reading Curriculum is, "A writing program?": I am very impressed with the Institute for Excellence in Writing "CCSS" ELA writing curriculum. The curriculum could and should be used to teach reading and writing in classrooms that want to inspire children to read and write with passion and curiosity. The IEW ELA curriculum uses mentor text and quality literature as the foundation to teach all aspects of language arts. Close reading strategies, word work, graphic organizers, outlines, grammar taught in context and checklist are used to help students learn to critically read vigorous text and carefully deconstruct text to learn the structures of literature or informational text. The enhanced reading comprehension strategies and spiraling writing strategies, structures and process are synthesized through a pedagogical sequence that is sound. The use of mentor texts to teach fiction and non-fiction writing, enhance reading comprehension and develop all english language domains is a tenant I have used with great success for fifteen years.

My Top Pick for CCSS Elementary Math Curriculum is Everyday Mathematics: The program is rigours and has helped ALL my student's for fifteen years make on average two years of measured growth. I started using the curriculum in my self contained crosscat classes with amazing results. the students that stay in the spiraling curriculum for a few years always test one or two standard deviations above peers not exposed to the vigorous spiraling curriculum. The difficulty for teachers, parents and students is the idea that you do not have to teach all concepts to mastery.  "Everyday Mathematics is a controversial pre-K and elementary school mathematics curriculum developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project (not to be confused with the University of Chicago School of Mathematics). The program, now published by McGraw-Hill Education, has sparked considerable debate."wiki

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is an educational initiative in the United States that details what K-12 students should know in English language arts and mathematics at the end of each grade. The initiative is sponsored by the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and seeks to establish consistent educational standards across the states as well as ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to enter credit-bearing courses at two- or four-year college programs or to enter the workforce.
