Mindfulness: A Classroom Guide

Mindful Meditation: Reducing Stress and Improving Learning

Mindful students' are happy, focused, highly attentive, , resilient, intrinsically motivated, emotionally grounded, academically successful, and demonstrate self-persuasion on vigorous tasks.

Students that are not mindful of emotional triggers, have poor stress
management, and struggle with academic fear and anxiety may be your student's that react negatively to academic situations, they may be unable to thrive academically. These students will tend to opt-out, shut-down, avoid, ignore, delay, procrastinate, and or lie to get out of what they perceive as a negative emotional situation.

"Class, class!" Students responds YES YES!
Thank you for your FULL attention and bringing your focus back to class!"

"Please be mindful, fully present in each learning moment, with kindness, focused interest. and without judgment" Mr. Taylor

Mindfulness is a cognitive process where one actively focuses one's attention on internal feelings, thoughts, emotions, ideas, and or external experiences occurring in the present moment, the process can be enhanced and nurtured through the practice of mindful meditation and mental training.

"Our mental health and well-being are profoundly affected by where and how we place our attention" Richard Burnett

Research in Cognitive neuroscience demonstrates that the practice of mindfulness is strongly correlated with greater well-being, improved focus, stress reduction, improved executive function, and overall positive mental health. This is applicable to every classroom that has become a high stress, rigorous academic environment. Numerous studies show that unproductive feelings, visceral emotions, and worry contribute to mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety, and that mindfulness-based intervention are effective in the reduction of both “negative” counterproductive thoughts and worry.
