Opinion/Persuasive Writing: Introduction

Of course, I strongly believe students at my Elementary School should have to wear school uniforms. My 1st reason for wanting school uniforms is I think it would allow me to focus more on my learning and less on being cool. Uniforms allow students like me to worry less about my school social status and foppish superficial appearance. My family is not rich, they do not have the cash to buy me a pair of 90-dollar shoes! Each of the three authors makes a convincing argument for the benefits like less cost for parents and the downside of school uniforms making things worse like assaults. One argument made by Mark Oppenheimer almost changed my mind against school uniforms, “Many studies show no change in school culture, and some even show negative results: in one 2007 study, the introduction of uniforms accompanied an increase in the average number of assaults in one district’s violent schools.” I have mixed feelings concerning the arguments presented by the three authors, especially Mark Oppenheimer’s claim of increased assaults. Many supporters of school uniforms make claims that are not supported by real facts. Most schools do not have dress codes, yet they receive excellent academic rankings, why?
In the first article The Down Side of School Uniforms, they list many reasons why school uniforms are not living up to all the hype.
