Then Melania Trump took the stage and unveiled a vision. Imagine, she said, a humanoid educator named Plato. Patient. Always available. Able to teach literature, science, art, philosophy, mathematics, and history — the entire corpus of human knowledge — in your home, adapted in real time to your child's pace, prior knowledge, even emotional state. The byproduct? A more complete person, she said. Children freed to play sports, build friendships, pursue interests.

What Was Actually Said

Melania Trump described the vision precisely: "Plato is always patient, and always available. Predictably, our children will develop deep critical thinking and independent reasoning abilities. The AI-powered Plato will boost analytic skills and problem solving and adapt in real time to a student's pace, prior knowledge and even emotional state."

Now cut across to Silicon Valley. Mark Zuckerberg — the man who lost $71 billion building a metaverse nobody wanted — is now developing an AI agent clone of himself to help run Meta. Companies unveiled digital twin software at CES 2026 that replicates an employee's voice, video, mannerisms, and speech patterns so they can "be in two places at once." The logic is obvious: if CEOs can clone themselves, why can't children?

Here is where your voice in the conversation matters. Because what no one in the East Room asked — what no tech CEO funding a trillion dollars of AI infrastructure ever asks — is the one question that 25 years in classrooms teaches you to ask first:

This sounds elegant. It sounds like a division of labor. A child, freed from rote learning by their digital twin, building real-world capability with other children. Children need to learn to navigate frustration, confusion, and conflict — because those are the people they will work with for the rest of their lives.

If a child's AI avatar learns continuously — accumulating knowledge, refining reasoning, expanding vocabulary — while the child pursues hands-on collaborative activities, what happens when the avatar becomes demonstrably more capable than the child? The children who will get Plato first are the children who already have the best human teachers, the most enriched environments, and the greatest advantages. The children who need the most support will be the last to benefit — and the first to be displaced by policies that defund human educators in favor of technology promises.

The Dyslexic Reader Problem: What AI cannot see

Two and a half millennia later, Silicon Valley has built a more sophisticated version of exactly the thing Plato warned about. A machine that delivers the appearance of knowledge without the struggle, relationship, failure, and growth that constitute actual learning. The AI avatar that learns for your child does not educate your child. It produces a dossier of facts your child's digital shadow has encountered.

The real Plato believed learning happened in dialogue — in the friction of two minds pushing against each other, questioning, revising, and arriving together at something neither held at the start. His Academy was a garden. People walked and argued. They were present, embodied, and fully engaged with one another. Socrates — Plato's teacher — never wrote a word. He taught entirely through human encounter.

The humanoid Figure 3, for all its eleven languages and vision-language-action processing, cannot replicate what happened in that garden. And the trillion dollars being spent to suggest it can is not an investment in children. It is an investment in a story about children — one that sounds like progress, feels like the future, and contains within it the seeds of a generation that knows everything and has learned nothing.

The key difference comes down to a single dimension: OpenClaw executes tasks you defined weeks ago, at times you specified, based on conditions you set. Manus executes tasks when you initiate them. NemoClaw: Nvidia's Answer to the Governance Problem

The security and accountability gaps in both systems prompted Nvidia to intervene at its GTC 2026 conference.
