2026-2027 State Reading and Math assessment practice tests: official family and student links
Bottom line: I located a
family/student practice or test-training resource for reading/English language
arts (ELA) and mathematics in 49 states. Minnesota has a public bank of released/sample questions,
but the Minnesota Department of Education says it is not a practice test and
does not simulate the test platform. If “practice test” means a complete mock
test with subject content—not just sample questions or a tool/tutorial—check
each state’s note below: the depth and format vary. For example, South
Carolina’s linked resource is primarily test-platform training.
The state links below point to education-agency pages or
to assessment portals linked by those agencies. They are useful starting points
for families; follow the page links to the grade and subject you need. Many
state tests are called “summative” assessments rather than end-of-grade (EOG)
tests, and some include high-school end-of-course tests.

What “practice test” means here
State resources are not all the same. Some provide an
online, grade-specific practice test; others provide released questions, item
samplers, paper PDFs, or tools/tutorials for learning the test interface. “Yes”
in the count means an official resource was located that families/students can
use for test practice or familiarization in both subject areas. It does not mean that every state publishes a complete, scored,
released copy of its operational test. Minnesota is marked partial because its
official question bank is explicitly not a practice test. South Carolina’s
resource is mainly platform/tool training.
Links were checked against state education agency
assessment pages or assessment portals linked/recommended from those pages.
Vendor portals are included where the state agency directed families to them.
Test names, grade ranges, access steps, and available materials can change by
school year; use the linked state page to confirm current instructions for a
student’s grade.
Pearson works with numerous states on K–12 statewide testing, but its role varies: it may help develop tests, administer them online, score responses, or manage an assessment program—not necessarily do all four.[pearson][pearsonassessments]
Which states?
Pearson’s statewide-assessment website lists the following 17 states in its “national delivery footprint.” Treat this as a list of states Pearson has served, rather than a guaranteed roster of current contracts for every reading and math test.[pearson]
| Arizona | Colorado | Florida |
| Illinois | Iowa | Kentucky |
| Maine | Maryland | Minnesota |
| New Jersey* | New York | North Carolina |
| Tennessee | Texas | Utah |
| Vermont | Virginia |
Source for the state list: Pearson’s statewide-assessment services page.[pearson]
*New Jersey needs an important qualification: Pearson’s October 2026 business update reports that it lost that contract, so New Jersey should not be counted as a current customer solely because it remains on the marketing page. The same update announces a new Pennsylvania statewide assessment contract beginning with the 2027–28 assessment cycle—not the current cycle.[tradingview]
What does “uses Pearson” mean?
It does not necessarily mean a state purchases an off-the-shelf “Pearson reading test.” Pearson describes both custom, curriculum-aligned test development and assessment-delivery services. A state can therefore use Pearson while retaining its own assessment name and academic standards.[pearson][pearsonassessments]
Colorado provides a clear example: its education department selected Pearson to continue administering the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS), including English language arts and mathematics in grades 3–8. The announced agreement extends through December 2037, including renewal options.[cde.state.co]
So, for your original question, identifying Pearson as a state’s testing contractor is not enough to establish that Pearson alone developed and published that state’s end-of-grade reading and math tests. The particular assessment and the scope of the contract matter.[pearson][pearsonassessments]
The linked resources are the cited source pages for the
state-by-state entries above. When a vendor portal is linked, the state
education agency’s corresponding assessment page is listed as the resource or
in the notes. Minnesota’s distinction is described on its linked questions
tool; South Carolina’s state page identifies its online tools training.
