The Hitchhiker's Guide To Literacy

Learning To Read: The Cosmic Skill Everyone Needs!

The most potent drink in the the Universe is the “Pan Galactic gargle Blaster”, a cocktail based on Janx Spirit. The drinks effect "is like having your brain smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick." The most potent skill in the universe is literacy. The effect of literacy is like having your mind expanded by a slice of supernova wrapped around a massive wave of cosmic lemon knowledge surrounded by golden universal consciousness.

The recipe for the Blaster is more complex than the recipe for literacy!

"Take the juice from one bottle of that Ol' Janx Spirit. Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V, Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture Allow four liters of Fallian marsh gas to bubble through it Over the back of a silver spoon float a measure of Qualactin Hypermint extract, redolent of all the heady odors of the dark Qualactin Zones. Drop in the tooth of an Algolian Suntiger. Watch it dissolve, spreading the fires of the Algolian suns deep into the heart of the drink. Sprinkle Zamphour. Add an olive. Drink...but very carefully."

The recipe for literacy! Take out a great book, find a comfy place, and read with your child. Repeat daily as needed, in just a few years you will have your very own sentient being. Dedicated to Douglas Adams

  1. The recipe for literacy! So simple, yet, a most necessary ingredient that is often missing, are the available parents. Please limit time your child spends on watching TV or playing video games.

What I have witnessed of the effects of Mr. Taylor's recipe for literacy are on my own two adopted nieces that came into our lives as preschoolers. The only gifts Aunt Terry would give were children's books, yes, even bilingual Spanish books. I began singing songs to my girls on my guitar and discovered their love and talent for music and playing instruments.
I knew my brother and my sister-in-law would instill the love of reading and talent for music (runs in our family) early on.

Well, fast forward a few years, and my oldest niece can't wait to devour the lyrics of all my favorite songs I have collected. I was amazed as I observed this 2nd grader, reading all the lyrics fluently and making up her own melodies as she turned page by page of my huge personal song notebook.

Yes, the recipe is simple, but the parents have to be available, everyday!!

Thank you!
