STAAR Practice Test
The STAAR Practice Test listed below are a great tool to help your students prepare for the STAAR test, yet they cannot replace quality instruction or hours of practice. I have listed the TAKS test to help student prepare for the more challenging STAAR assessment. I would suggest students take the test above and below their grade level to prepare for the STAAR test. My students usually take one below and two or three above to practice for the end of year assessment. The old TAKS online test can be found on this blog as well.
Preparing to take the new STAAR assessment (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) is a fear for many teachers and students with the high stakes nature of testing. The STAAR assessments will be used for the 12 end-of-course assessments mandated by SB 1031 in 2007 and the new grade 3-8 assessments mandated by HB 3 in the 2009 legislative session starting this year.
All students preparing to take the STAAR assessment should study the grade specific tier 2 and tier 3 testing vocabulary. Tier 2 academic vocabulary covers academic words that are not domain specific like compare and contrast, and tier 3 words like symbolism in poetry.
